In the beginning…

This five year old article about the nascent EMR industry in NB sheds some light on the early days.      It is hinted that early adopters could be key in the Medical Society’s and Department of Health’s drive to promote the conversion to digital record keeping.   Did anyone take the hint?   Currently, NB physicians who got an early start in the EMR business are not being treated kindly by the proponents of the province’s single vendor system.   Perhaps it’s not too late to bring them into the fold, break the single vendor monopoly, and start putting their experience and ideas to use.   This month’s meeting of the NBMS board of directors will be telling.   Can early adopters of non-Velante EMR’s be accommodated within the Society’s master plan, or will they be cast out of the electronic Eden?   Stay tuned…
